/IRBIS, Oct.08, 99/ - In September 1999 4,942 deals were made with foreign currencies at Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), including: in US dollars - 4,835, in Deutsche mark - 83, and in Euro - 24. Total volume of trades made is 38,800.0 mln tenge or equivalent of 285,751.3 thousand US dollars. US dollar accounted for 99.5% of the total Exchange's volume. Trade volume in US dollars reached $284 mln 325 thousand (38,605.5 mln tenge) with the average session volume of $12 mln 924 thousand. Corresponding figures for previous month: $243 mln 800 thousand (32,134.4 mln tenge), $11 mln 610 thousand; September 1998: $130 mln 085 thousand (10,364.8 mln tenge), $5,913.0 thousand. Volume of US dollar turnover in September of this year is the highest for an American currency since the introduction of tenge. In opinion of IRBIS analysts, this achievement was possible due to mandatory sale of half of exporters' earnings, and the market worked with unprecedented high monetary base in the country. Tenge devaluation rate, calculated at Exchange's weighted average rate against dollar, is assessed by trend of 72.98% APR (Aug.31, 99 = 132.2635 - Sep.30, 99 = 140.1098) in September 1999. For previous month this figure was equal to 3.07% APR. Weighted average US dollar exchange rate against tenge, calculated for all September deals - 135.78 tenge per unit of the currency. For August - 131.81 tenge per dollar. From the beginning of 1999 through September 30, 99 corresponding figure made 121.83 tenge per dollar and rose from 118.72 within a month. Trade volume in Deutsche mark made 1,335 thousand marks (97.6 mln tenge). Corresponding figures for last month: 1,640 thousand (117.4 mln tenge). Tenge revaluation rate against mark, calculated at Exchange's weighted average rate, is assessed by a trend of 90.9% APR (Aug.31, 99 = 71.0750 - Sep.30, 99 = 76.4008) in September 1999. For previous month corresponding figure was equal to negative 20.8% APR (tenge revalued against mark). Weighted average Deutsche mark exchange rate against tenge, calculated for all September deals - 73.14 tenge per mark. For August - 71.61. From the beginning of 1999 through September 30, 99 corresponding figure made 70.43; for the end of last month - 69.71 tenge per mark. Volume of deals in Euro reached 670 thousand currency units (96.9 mln tenge) in September. Corresponding figures for previous month: 410 thousand (57.2 mln tenge. Tenge revaluation rate against Euro, calculated at Exchange's weighted average rate, is assessed by a trend of 81.1% APR (Aug.31, 99 = 139.3250 - Sep.30, 99 = 148.6338) in August 1999.
