/IRBIS, Sep.03, 99/ - According to REUTERS, at closing of over-the-counter
foreign exchange market of Kazakhstan on September 03 tenge quotations
towards US dollar have made 132.63/67 tenge per dollar with the weighted
average Exchange's price of 132.56 (+0.27) and the quotes at closing of the
Exchange's session of 132.57/58.
Based on dealers' over-the-counter market quotations, tenge gained 30
points against American currency on demand and 24 points on supply
compared to yesterday's closing.
Just like yesterday, at the end of the day trend of strengthening dollar
became apparent. Starting from 4:00PM Almaty time quotations in
REUTERS information system did not change.
Spreads on the over-the-counter market varied from 4 to 10 points, 9 points
on average, and did not vary from those of previous day.
The situation at closing of the over-the-counter market on Friday was close
to that of previous day. Dollar exchange rates at the currency exchange
(weighted average and closing) were much lower than its demand and
supply prices on over-the-counter market at 6:00PM. Therefore, banks may
open the trades with US dollars at KASE on Monday higher than 132.57
tenge per dollar. Further exchange rate dynamics at the session, according
to IRBIS analysts, will mainly depend on the position of country's head bank.
Dealers' poll, conducted by REUTERS today, indicates that the market is
certainly aimed high. High devaluation expectations is affected by a difficult
situation in Russia and approaching of a due date for Kazakhstan external
debt. Also, increase of demand in the market for cash foreign currency is
pitching in.
