KAZAKHMYS PLС (United Kingdom) completes recovering energy block # 8 at Ekibastuz GRES-1

/KASE, June 21, 12/ - KAZAKHMYS PLС (London), whose shares are officially listed at Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), has provided KASE with the following press-release of June 19, 2012: quote Bolat Nurzhanov Ekibastuz GRES-1 steps up the implementation of the long- term investment program aimed at recovering and increasing of the production capacities. In July this year the launch of energy block #8 of 500MWt is expected. Over 500 people from 10 sub-contractor firms took part in the recovery of the energy block. The project cost over KZT23 bn. The launch of the sixth energy block will allow the station to increase its product ion capacity to 3,000 MWt. Besides, other projects are being implemented under this program. Thus, jobs on recovery and modernization of energy unit #2 were commenced a year ahead of the schedule. Under this project a memorandum of mutual co- operation has already been signed with CJSC "KOTES" (Novosibirsk, Russian Federation). The agreement refers to drawing up of technical documentation for recovery of the energy block and other jobs. A total of KZT61.5 bn is supposed to be spent on the recovery. Energy block #2 is supposed to be launched by the end of 2014. The recovery and modernization program include replacement of the boiler equipment, turbine, generator, recovery of the existing auxiliary equipment and mounting of the new generation filter. Director of Fuel and Energy complex of Kazakhmys group Nikolai Korobovskiy pointed out: "We are slightly ahead of schedule with implementation of the major investment program in Kazakhstan energy sector which is scheduled until 2020. Already in the fourth quarter of this year energy block #8 will start producing electricity. The launch of each block will allow an increase in electricity generating by 3.1 KWt/hour per annum".
