/KASE, June 14, 12/ - JSC "Development Bank of Kazakhstan" (Astana),
whose bonds are officially listed at Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE), has
provided KASE with the following press-release of June 14, 2012:

Investments in Kazakhstan's electricity industry will make up around USD7 bn
Investments in the energy industry will make around 10% of all investments under
the Industrialization map. Such data were disclosed by analysts of Development
Bank of Kazakhstan (DBK) in their review of the energy industry.
Kazakhstan's economic rise started in 2000s made the demand for electric
energy increase. Hence, by the end of 2010 Kazakhstan produced 82.6 bn
kWt/hour of electric energy, which is by 30% more than figures from 2003.
At the same time, the structure of demand for electric energy is uneven in the
regional as well as industrial terms. Thus, more than 70% of electric energy is
used in the same industrial region. Southern regions are in need of energy the
most. After commissioning of the second chain of the line "North-South" the
electric energy deficit in the region has went down.
"New industrial facilities commissioned across the country will require additional
capacities for their operation. However, energy facilities build under the GPAIID
would be able to balance and cover the demand for energy", - said Sabit
Sukhanov, director of Industrial Policy Department of DBK. Investments made
under the GPAIID will be directed to the reconstruction and modernization of
existing sources, energy network facilities, as well as to the construction of
power generating facilities and building of infrastructure.
According to the proposed balance, by 2015 electricity energy demand is
expected at the level of 100.5 bn KWt/hour. Hence, the annual additional demand
for electricity will make around 11.5 bn KWt/hour. Such volume of electricity is
necessary for covering a 7% growth of the economy. It should be noted that in
2010 90.3% of all electricity energy produced in Kazakhstan was generated at
heat stations, the rest - at hydro electricity stations.
A promising way of financing energy projects are as before traditional sources
(heat and hydro energy). Besides, renewable energy sources should be taken into
account. They are wind turbines and solar power stations, small hydroelectricity
stations, which have rather big potential for development.
