According to the National Association of Realtors, the volume of transactions for the sale of homes on the secondary market in the U.S. in November 2011 grew by 7.3% compared with October, to the highest level over the past 19 months. The index of business activity in Chicago in December 2011 fell to 62.5 points, which was, nevertheless, better than analysts' expectations (61 points). The number of initial claims for unemployment benefits in the U.S. for the week ended December 24 rose by 15 thousand to 381 thousand, however, the average number of applications for the last four weeks dropped to 375 thousand, the lowest level over the past three years.
