/IRBIS, December 22, 2011/ - Today, the precipitator at Unit# 6 at
Ekibastuz GRES-1 named after Bulat Nurzhanov was put into
operation, reported today KAZAKHMYS PLC.
The ceremonial launch was attended by Akim of Pavlodar region
Bakytzhan Sagintayev and chairman of LLP "Kazakhmys
Corporation" Eduard Ogai.
As indicated, the precipitator will allow increasing ash collection at
the Unit to 99.6%. Similar precipitator has already been put into
operation at Unit # 5 in December last year. In general, for the
program on installation of new generation precipitators 12.5 billion
tenge are allocated. In 2013, the ESP will be installed on six power
units. As a result of the work the amount of harmful emissions into
the atmosphere will be significantly reduced.
At the station multi-year investment program consisting of several
stages of upgrading of five operating units # 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, recovery
of three non-performing units # 1, 2 and 8, and minimization of the
impact on the environment through a consistent set of electrostatic
precipitators is being successfully executed. Schedule of
modernization and restoration of designed capacity is clear until
2016. The cost of this work was about $ 10 million and is part of an
extensive investment program of $ 1 billion
It is reported that in 2011, main attention was drawn to restoration
of power units # 8 and 2 and about 19 billion tenge will actually be
disbursed. To date, on Unit # 8 more than 50% of the work has
actually been completed. Operation start of the unit is scheduled
for the second half of 2012. As of today, turbine control assembly
has been completed. The development of the project to restore the
unit # 2 has been completed. In 2011, as part of the investment
program assembly and installation of an electrostatic precipitator at
Unit # 6 have been carried out, work began on the installation of
electrostatic precipitators for Units # 7, 4 and 5. Units # 3 and # 6
have been upgraded and renovated, which has a positive effect on
increase in the reliability of power units.
"I believe that large-scale work on the modernization of equipment
of Ekibastuz GRES-1 are equally important not only for employees
but for all Kazakhs. With electrostatic precipitator installed, we can
minimize the impact on the environment", - said Edward Ogay, a
member of the Board of Directors of Kazakhmys Group and
Chairman of the Company "Kazakhmys".
