Stock indexes of emerging markets on Wednesday
closed the day mostly in positive territory. Support has
been provided by speculations on rumors that the
slowdown in inflation in China to persuade the
authorities to soften monetary policy. Also, investors'
attention was drawn to an emergency meeting of EU
leaders on the eve of the summit of "Big Twenty" in
Cannes. As reported at the meeting the Greek Prime
Minister George Papandreou was invited, who
announced earlier on the referendum on a new
agreement with the EU, which was concluded on
October 26, to write off part of the Greek debt in
exchange for a program of austerity. On the eve this
message had significant pressure on the markets.
