/IRBIS, August 31, 2011/ - "RESMI" Financial & Investment
House" JCS (Almaty, "RESMI" FIH) has provided IRBIS with the
review of key events and its investment ideas and forecasts for
August 31, 2011
The "RESMI" FIH analysts pay the investors' attention to the
following key events on the markets:
- Number of victims of the hurricane "Irene" in the U.S. grew to
43 people. Because of the cyclone in a few states reported
massive power outages due to broken wiring. Hurricane
severely damaged power grid east of the USA - at last count,
were without electricity for more than 5 million customers. Of
course, after the insurance and retail sector is one of the
most affected in the light of the disaster. Last weekend of
summer is traditionally used by Americans to purchase
school supplies before the start of the school year.
According to experts, the U.S. East Coast retailers because
of the "Irene" miss from 85% to 90% of profits last summer
weekend, with the yield inferior only Christmas and New
Year. In this connection, analysts of FIH "RESMI" expected
reduce the volume of the August sales figures retailers
JCPenney (JCP US), Kohl's (KSS US), Macy's (M US) and
Saks (SKS US). However, amid the growing number of
victims of the hurricane "Irene", analysts of "RESMI"
expected growth rate of sales in August-September of
pharmaceutical companies specializing in the preparations
of the basic activity (cough, pain, etc.) and consumable
medical supplies. The largest U.S. companies in the sector
are above GlaxoSmithKline (GSK US), 3M (MMM US),
Pfizer (PFE US), Elli Lily (LLY US), TEVA (TEVA IT), Merck
(MRK US). Following the pharmaceutical sector, analysts of
"RESMI" FIH believe that the stocks of companies of the
construction sector and building materials in the U.S. in the
near future will show a positive trend of quotations against
the need to restore large volumes of homes in North
Carolina and several large coastal states.
- The largest Russian oil company with state participation,
"Rosneft" and the American energy giant "Exxon Mobil"
yesterday signed an agreement on strategic cooperation. In
fact, ExxonMobil has replaced Britain's BP. Earlier this year,
"Rosneft" has announced an alliance with the British. The
contract implies mutual exchange of shares, which would
open up access to the Russian company's international
projects partner. But because of constraints imposed by the
shareholders agreement between BP and consortium AAR
(in TNK-BP), the deal was never closed. In June, "Rosneft"
has begun negotiations with other foreign oil and gas
corporations. In the list were the Chinese CNPC, CNOOC
and Sinopec, the U.S. ExxonMobil, India's ONGC, British
Shell, Brazil's Petrobras. The deal does not provide an
exchange of shares, as the contract with BP, but the scale of
cooperation is much broader than that provided for an
agreement with the British. "Rosneft" will consider the
possibility of acquiring a stake in a number of exploration
projects and operating ExxonMobil in North America,
including offshore fields in the Gulf of Mexico fields with
hard-to-oil reserves in Texas (USA), Canada, and projects in
other countries. "Exxon Mobil", in turn, be able to participate
in the work of the Russian shelf - seabed with enormous
natural resources, development of which requires significant
investment. Thus, investment in the development of Russian
shelf can range from $ 200 to $ 300 billion, not including
costs for equipping the territory, infrastructure and
construction of necessary facilities. Against this background,
the amount could reach $ 500 billion alliance involves
working at three licensed areas of the Arctic shelf - East
Prinovozemelskih 1, 2, 3 (resources are estimated at 49.7
million tons of oil, 1.8 trillion cubical meters of gas and 49
million tons of condensate) in the Kara Sea and the license
block Tuapse on the Black Sea. The share of American
companies in each of them will be about 33%. To finance
exploration work will be allocated up to $ 3.2 billion. Analysts
of "RESMI" believe that this transaction will positively affect
the earnings of both companies in the long run. Analysts of
FIH "RESMI" recommend buying shares of the company
"Exxon Mobil" in view of the projected increase its profits, as
well as the growth of energy prices.
