Claims for ecological violations have been raised to NCOC worth KZT 686 million

/IRBIS, June 24, 2011/ - North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC),
operator of the Kashagan development, has been under a claim for
damages caused to the environment, to the amount of KZT 486 million
and imposed an administrative fine of nearly 200 million tenge, said
today at a meeting of the board of the Ministry of Environment
protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan Head of the department of
oversight of legality in the socioeconomic sphere, the Prosecutor
General of Kazakhstan Alan Tlenchiev.
"While exercising prosecutorial supervision this year stopped the
company North Caspian Operating Company re-admitted violations of
the law, expressed in carrying out their activities without the proper
environmental permits. As a result of representations made by
prosecutors, the Department of Ecology filed a claim for compensation
for damage caused by environmental medium, the total amount of 486
million tenge and imposed an administrative fine of almost $200
million tenge, which will be recovered to the state budget", - said A.
Tlenchiev.
He pointed out that in 2010 the results of checks on compliance with
environmental laws were suspended permits for environmental
emissions of NCOC, and suspended the production of drilling cuttings
to the customer from the company Agip Karachaganak BV.
