On March 14, 2011, in Atyrau NC KazMunaiGas initiated the round table
meeting "Ensuring environmental safety in Caspian area related to oil
and gas production, including implementation of the Project "North Caspian
ecological base of response to oil spill".
In the round table meeting participated representatives of administrations
of Atyrau and Atyrau Region, Atyrau Region Department for Emergency Situations
and Environmental Prosecutor's Office, oil and gas companies, non-government
organizations, scientific institutions and other interested organizations.
NC KMG subsidiary Teniz Service LLP Director General Alexei Safronov, when
opening the round table meeting said that at present the issues related to
prevention and response to oil spills are significant, however, nowadays on
the Caspian Sea there is a lack of bases of response to oil spills of the
second and third levels.
Considering that in compliance with the Program of Oil and Gas Sector
Development in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2010-2014, NC KMG launched
construction of North Caspian ecological base of response to oil spill.
This Project is aimed at urgent response to oil spills during industrial
exploration and exploitation of Kashagan and other deposits in the Caspian Sea
Northern sector, implementation of environmental and meteorological monitoring,
rehabilitation of fauna and protection of North Caspian and Ural River reed
areas as well as ensuring of environmental safety of the Caspian Sea and the
environment in whole.
