/IRBIS, March 3, 2011/ - In Kazakhstan, the EU launched a project to
improve the competitiveness of the transport and logistics, to the press office
of the Chamber of Commerce of the Republic of Kazakhstan issued today a
press release.
"The project" Capacity building of transport and logistics sector in
Kazakhstan through the introduction of international quality management
standards ISO "officially launched on February 28 in Astana and Almaty on
March 1 with a first informational seminars. The project, a total budget of
588,000 euros, 85% is sponsored by the European Union, also participated
in the financing of the Federal Ministry for Economic Development and
interactions of Germany ", - stated in a press release.
"We are very proud that the European Union has given us the opportunity to
implement this project. For Kazakhstan, it is very important to its small and
medium-sized businesses offering services to the highest level," - said vice-
president of the Chamber of Commerce RK Mrs. Tatyana Zhdanova, whose

Noted that the two-year project is the German Association for International
Cooperation (GIZ GmbH) together with the Chamber of Commerce of the
Republic of Kazakhstan and the two partners of Uzbekistan, an associate
partner of the project is KazNTU under Satpayev.
"Together with our Kazakhstan partners, we are striving to improve the
international competitiveness of Kazakhstan's small and medium enterprises
engaged in transport and logistics - an important sector in Kazakhstan and
other Central Asian states - supporting the desire to conform to international
standards such as ISO 9001," - said Senior Project Manager GIZ Mr. Andrea
Rakers, whose words are reported.
"The development of transport and logistics in Kazakhstan is extremely
important and we support the GIZ and other partners in this project," - added
the Deputy Director of Strategic Planning Department Ministry of Transport
and Communications of Kazakhstan Mr. Olzhas Sutemgenov.
The project is funded by the European Union within the framework of the
Central Asia Invest. The program started in 2007 and is aimed at developing
the private sector, especially SMEs in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan,
Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The program operates at two levels: at the
level of the Central Asian business intermediary organizations to improve
service levels for small and medium-sized enterprises, and at the political
level to improve the business climate in general.
