Total deposits in Kazakhstan in December 2010 decreased by 0.7% to 7,397.9 bln KZT

/IRBIS, February 9, 2011/ - The total volume of residents' deposits in depository institutions in December 2010 decreased by 0.7% to 7,397.9 billion KZT (from the beginning of the year - an increase of 12.5%), according to today's press office of the National Bank of Kazakhstan. As noted, corporate deposits decreased by 2.0% to 5,203.0 billion KZT (from the beginning of the year - an increase of 11.2%), deposits of individuals increased by 2.4% to 2,194.9 bln KZT (from the beginning of the year - an increase of 15.9%). In December 2010 the amount of foreign currency deposits decreased by 1.9% to 2,590.0 bln KZT (from the beginning of the year - a decline of 9.9%), in national currency decreased by 0.1% to 4,807.9 billion KZT (since the beginning of the year - an increase of 30.0%). The share of deposits in tenge in December 2010 compared with November 2010 increased from 64.6% to 65.0%. Deposits in banks (including non-residents) rose for December 2010 on 2.4% to 2,249.8 bln KZT (from the beginning of the year - an increase of 16.2%). In the structure of population deposits, tenge denominated deposits increased by 5.6% to 1,249.6 billion KZT (beginning of the year - an increase of 48.6%), foreign currency deposits declined by 1.2% to 1,000.2 billion KZT (from the beginning of the year - a decline of 8.7%). As a result, the proportion of tenge deposits increased from 53.9% to 55.5%. In December 2010, the weighted average interest rate of tenge deposits of nonbank legal entities amounted to 3.4% (in December 2009, 4.5%), while the deposits of physical persons - 8.8% (10.0%).
