China has set up economic zone for trade with Kazakhstan

/IRBIS, September 7, 2010/ - Special Economic Zone was opened in the Ili-
Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture of China, announced today a central Internet
portal of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, with reference to the
Chinese edition China-briefing.
As indicated, Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture is located in the northwest
Xinjiang near the border with Kazakhstan and is inhabited mainly by ethnic
Kazakhs. The total population of the district - 4 million people, about 500
thousand of them live in the city of Yining (also known as Yining). It is
assumed that the new economic zone area of 200 square kilometers, turn the
nearby border crossing Horgas in the center of Sino-Kazakh trade, including
container shipping, and will become a center of business contacts and
tourism development between Kazakhstan and Xinjiang.
The airport is located north of Yining, from where they fly to Urumqi. In
addition, in late 2009 went into operation a new electrified railway, and July 1,
was launched daily overnight train Urumqi-Yining.
According to the China-briefing, the volume of Kazakh-Chinese trade is about
$ 10 billion a year.
