/IRBIS, July 9, 2010/ - Russian gas giant Gazprom has become the most
profitable company in the world in 2009, according to magazine Fortune, in
spite of the fact that the income the company ranks 50 th, July 8 reported
Reuters.
As indicated, the U.S. retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc by revenue ranked first.
Net profit of Gazprom fell by 17.8% to $ 24.56 billion in 2009, but its position
has improved due to lower revenues of oil companies, which have suffered
from falling oil prices.
With this company, 49% of its shares owned by the Russian Government
became the most profitable for the magazine, ahead of Exxon Mobil.
China's presence in the Fortune companies increased by 9 to 46, compared
with 2008.
Revenues of the world's largest 500 companies fell 8.3% to $ 23.1 trillion.
And profit increased by 16.9% to $ 960.5 billion.
