quotation start
During the last year kaspi bank shareholders increased the equity capital by 7% at
the expense of the profit. As a result the kaspi bank capital adequacy, previously
one of the highest among Kazakhstan banks, has increased again - 25.57%.
Client's deposits increased almost by 45% up to KZT129.4 bn mainly due to the
improved trust of individuals. This result is one of the best among Kazakhstan
banks during the last year.
At present the bank ratio of credits to deposits coefficient is one of the best in
Kazakhstan. This coefficient indicates the low level of external debts. In 2009,
kaspi bank will not make any external payments as the bank has only the long-
term borrowings, payable till 2013.
- We showed good results, - states the Head of kaspi bank Michael Lomtadze. -
The significant growth of deposits is the best assessment, which we could
receive from the population of Kazakhstan. In 2008, we actively credited,
having issued about 250 thousand credits to the population and small and
medium size businesses. This year, when our bank remained the single re-tail
sector player, we plan to increase the consumer lending volumes by 2 times.
If we used to issue monthly by 15-20 thousand loans, this year we shall
increase the volume up to 40 thousand.
- The kaspi bank 2008 profit is almost KZT4 bn that makes us one of the most
profitable banks in Kazakhstan, - says Michael Lomtadze. - The profit
decreased by approximately 50% in comparison with the last year. This decrease
is caused by 3 main factors:
(1) on the one hand we have increased the deposit base on the other we placed
money conservatively;
(2) the bank made larger provisions as we are conservative at risks assessment;
(3) the bank low activity on the securities and currency markets. We decided that
it is not our main business.
Speaking about this year outcomes, Vyacheslav Kim, kaspi bank Board of
Directors Chairman, commented: "We do not have an objective to "pad" the
balance, first of all the bank owners and top managers build the long-term
business. Despite the world economic situation, we did not reduce staff and did
not stop crediting, but we have implemented the re-branding and launched new
credit products. In addition to the improved trust of clients, we see that our
strategy is correctly assessed by international financial organizations, which
continue issuing the long-term funds to us".
Indeed, kaspi bank is the single Kazakhstan bank, which in 2008 actively
borrowed finances from the leading international institutions. The total amount of
borrowings in 2008 made up USD220 m. This year the bank will continue long-
term borrowings from international institutional investors and will increase the
deposit base.
