Kazakhtelecom JSC within implementation of the government program "30
corporate leaders of Kazakhstan" introduces in South-Kazakhstan Region the
project "Modernization and development of telecommunications using CDMA
technologies"
On July 22, 2008, in Zhetysai of Makhtaaralski raion of South-Kazakhstan Region
with participation of Vice-Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan Umirzak
Shukeev and Chairman of Board of Kazakhtelecom JSC Askar Zhumagaliev, was
held the presentation of the project on expansion of the national wireless
communications network on the basis of CDMA-450. This is the third region after
Akmola and Kostanai Regions, where beginning this year was introduced CDMA-
50 standard. The project is being implemented by subsidiary of Kazakhtelecom
JSC VOSTOKTELEKOM LLP.
Main problems of the rural communications are connected with the large number
of people in the waiting list for installation of telephones, including air, low
level digit, and low speed connection to Internet network or absence of such
possibility.
CDMA was selected for the technical solution of this problem. This technology is
the most optimal for the rural area from the standpoint of costs, project
implementation time and perspectives of this technology utilization. CDMA
wireless equipment was recommended by the international organization of
telecommunications standardization, as the most perspective for development of
the 3G networks.
Today VOSTOKTELEKOM LLP assembled 10 base stations WLL CDMA-450 in
settlements of Akmola, Kostanai, South-Kazakhstan Regions.
Thus, installation of telephones in rural areas at present is assembled and
ready for exploitation network of fixed wireless radio access based on WLL
CDMA-450 technology in 7 raions of South-Kazakhstan Region with the total
volume 3140 numbers. Beginning the third quarter of this year, 17 more
settlements of the region will be organized networks of radio access with the
total volume over 15000 numbers.
After launching of base stations by the end of 2008, wireless networks will be
organized in all raion centers and large settlements of South-Kazakhstan Region.
The first phase of project implementation on installation of telephones in rural
areas with installation of 10 base stations required capital investment to the
amount of KZT155 m. The total cost of the project implementation in 2008 makes
up KZT1 592 m.
Till the end of the year VOSTOKTELEKOM LLP plans to additionally install 190
base stations that will allow organizing telecommunications services in 1842
rural settlements.
The complete installation of telephones by the end of 2009 will require about
KZT1 700 m.
This project is a breakthrough because during short period of time will be built
up the rural network with possibility of organization of not only voice
communication, but also of the Internet access.
