National bank of Kazakhstan describes inflation in the republic in May 2008

/IRBIS, June 10, 08/ - The National Bank of the Republic of Kazakhstan in its
press-release on the state of the financial market of the republic cited the
information about inflation in Kazakhstan in May 2008.

By the official data of the Statistics agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan,
inflation in May 2008 totaled 1.0% (in May 2007 - 0.7%). Prices for
provisions increased by 1.4 %( by 0.8%), non-food goods - by 0.6 %( by
0.6%), payable services - by 0.9 %( by 0.5%).
Among food in May 2008 the greatest growth in price was experienced by
grain and bread products - by 2.7%, including rice - 9.4%, wheat flour - by
3.1%. Besides, vegetable oil - 4.1%, meat products - 2.0%, sugar - by
1.4%.
In the group of non-food goods there was increase of prices for cleansers -
2.2%, fuel - by 1.8%, medicines - 0.7%.
In the structure of payable services for population the prices and rates
increased for railway and passenger transport services - by 2.2%, medical
services - by 1.1%. Housing and utilities services became more expensive -
by 0.5%, including collecting of waste service - by 12.4%, habitation
maintain service - by 2.0%.
For January-May of 2008 inflation made 4.5% (in corresponding period of
2007 - 3.8%). Rise in prices on food staff, which became expensive in this
period by 6.2% (4.8%) furthers for keeping inflation, mostly because of the
rise in prices on fruits and vegetables - by 15.6%, rice - by 12.0%, wheat
flour - by 10.4%, milk products - by 6.2%. Nonfoods had grown by 3.0% (by
2.1%), payable service became more expensive - by 3.3% (by 4.0%).
In May 2008 annual inflation made 19.5% (in December 2007 - 18.8%).
Food staffs had grown in prices by 28.3% (26.6%), non-food staffs - by
11.6%, payable services - by 14.6% (15.4%).
