KASE has determined leading operators of the exchange's repo market for January of 2003

/IRBIS, February 4, 03/ - Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) defined list of
companies - leading operators of stock exchange's repo market in Kazakhstan
for January of 2003. Before the stock exchange did not determine leading
operators in this market's segment, examining repo deals as operations in
government and corporate securities.
The place in the list is given according to portion of concluded deals in
aggregate gross turnover of trades (total of purchased and sold instruments
on repo opening and closing operations). At that, all repo deals were taken
into account regardless of the sector (automatic repo or direct deals method)
and subject of repo (government or corporate securities). The position of each
entity was expressed in currency of the payments - tenge.
A total of 33 companies participated in making of deals in at KASE's repo
sector in January excluding the National Bank of Kazakhstan (banks, broker-
dealer companies, pension assets management companies, SAPF, non-
banking financial organizations). Below is the list of 10 the most active
operators, which controlled 72.3% of this sector of the stock exchange's
market, given in descending order of their shares in total deals volume. In
parentheses position of corresponding operator in December of 2002, which
has been calculated by similar methods, is given

Total volume of transactions in KASE's repo sector in January of 2003
reached KZT237,617.2 m ($1,528.9 m) according to 1,926 conducted deals. In
comparison with December of 2002 volume of transactions decreased by
KZT101.1 bn ($647.9 m) or by 29.9% (by 29.8% in terms of dollar). Relative to
January of 2002 volume of transactions increased by KZT172.0 bn ($1,077.4
m) or 3.6 times (3.4 times in terms of dollar).
Portion of automatic repo deals in January was 82.4% of the whole volume of
conducted repo-transactions, in December - 73.8%.
