Sberbank and Apple have launched contactless payments using Apple Pay. This is
a convenient and secure personal tool that completely changes the scope of
mobile payments by offering clients the speed and comfort when paying for
purchases.
From today, Sberbank payment cardholders being the owners of Apple devices
with iOS and macOS operating systems (iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac), equipped
with NFC technology, are able to use Apple Pay which is an easy, safe and
personal payment tool.
"Sberbank is on the path of digitalization and further introduction of advanced
technologies that facilitate the accessibility and ease of banking services.
Thus, 80% of Sberbank's acquiring network is equipped with POS-terminals with
the possibility of contactless payment. If we speak about Kazakhstan in
general, such devices are over 65% and their number is constantly growing. In
this sense, the introduction of advanced Apple Pay technology to the market of
Kazakhstan is a kind of revolutionary step that significantly changes the
client’s behavior, its attitude to payments that now can be made by smartphone
without the physical presence of a payment card," Aleksandr Kamalov, Chairman

Security and privacy are at the core of Apple Pay. When you add a credit or
debit card to Apple Pay, the card number itself is not stored on the device or
Apple servers. Instead, a unique device account number is assigned, which is
encrypted and securely stored in the "Safe Element" chip of your device. Each
transaction is authorized by a unique one-time secret code that is dynamically
generated.
"Sberbank has more than 1.7 million retail clients and our clients increasingly
prefer a card instead of cash. I will mark several significant trends. The last
three months, the number of transactions with Sberbank cards exceeds the number
of cash withdrawals. Our clients are increasingly using contactless technologies
(half of the payments are made using NFC) and actively travel and communicate
with the world. Sberbank has been a leader in cross-border transactions in
Kazakhstan for a long time. Therefore, anticipating the expectations of our
clients and following global trends, today Sberbank offers a new Apple Pay
payment service which is the most convenient and secure way to pay for
purchases for iOS and macOS devices," Zhanargul Izimova, Managing Director for

In order to use the Apple Pay mobile payment service, clients can add a credit
or debit card through Wallet app or register a payment card in Sberbank Online
mobile app.
In stores you can pay with Apple Pay from iPhone SE, iPhone 6 and later models,
as well as from Apple Watch.
Apple Pay makes it very easy to make purchases in apps and on websites by
Touch ID or double clicking the side button and looking at the iPhone X to
confirm a transaction via Face ID.
