Development of amangeldy gas field begins

/IRBIS, Apr 16, 01/ - According to GSRW, the program for the development
of the Amangeldy gas field in the Zhambyl region started on 13th April.
KazTransGas vice president Karabalin said this year the company is
planning to continue exploration drilling to verify the amount of gas in the
field. The programme has been scheduled so that the equipment will be
ordered by end of this year, and activity for 2002 will be focused on field
development and the laying of the gas pipeline to the main pipeline, which
goes from Taraz to Almaty via Shymkent.
Mr. Ibragimov, Deputy Director of KazTransGas's Zhambyl branch,
announced that the company has created a division to co-ordinate the
project for development of the Amangeldy gas field; the division will work
with the Zhambyl branch. The final decision on whether or not to develop the
field and construct a pipeline may be made later this year, depending on
exploration results.
