Aksu plant (Kazakhstan) to produce 791,000 tons of ferroalloys in 2000

/IRBIS, Dec.25, 00/ - REUTERS informs, with the reference to the general director of Aksu ferroalloy plant, Bolat Svyatov, that the plant will increase its production up to 791,000 tons in this year from 734,000 tons last year. It is due to an increase in demand for the Kazakhstani ferrochromium, he added. Sales reached KZT30 bln, while investments totaled at about KZT2 bln. He said that the plant was familiarizing itself on the American market, while most of its exports go to South-East Asian and European countries. In 1998 the plant produced 543,000 tons of ferroalloys, which are used in the production of different types of steel, is said. Aksu plant is one of the major ferroalloy producers in the country, and it is subsidiary of Kazchrome that incorporates Ferrochrome in Aktobe and Donskoi mining combine. The Kazchrome is said to be part of the companies controlled by the Eurasian bank.
